Pants On The Ground...Please!

There’s Fashion and then there’s Not

In case you have not been outside in several years let me tell you what “Pants on the ground” is. “Pants on the Ground” is really a song that was made popular through “American Idol”. It is a parody and mocks the trend of young men wearing their pants under their butts and some, yes, drag on the ground!

Through the years this trend has gone further and further with it’s participants’ lowering their pants lower and lower. Once was, you could only see that these young men were in fact wearing underwear. Now, about the only thing you see is the underwear!

In my opinion, it has become really vulgar. I really do not want to see a another person’s underwear. And out in public it is completely out of place and shameful to see young people parading around in their underwear.

The trend was once associated with gang members or wanna be gang members. I told my son not to worry about being robbed or held up by these young men wearing their pants so low you can see every wrinkle in their underwear because they have to use both hands to hold up their pants.

They certainly can not be robbing or holding up anyone or anything because they are using both hands to hold up their pants. For sure they can not run in these pants.

It is the most sissy thing I have ever seen. These tough guys with such an attitude hold up their pants with both hands walking down the street look like little girls holding both sides of the dresses about to bow and make a curtsy. They look like little ballerinas twinkling down the street.

If my mother were alive today to see this she would call 911 every time she saw some one exposing their butts. I am totally convince she would file an indecent exposure charge with each and everyone of them. Probably something we should all do but we are to busy to stop and take the time it would take to file a police report. The bottom line is that these young people are looking for attention and willing to stand out in the strangest way to get the much needed attention they are seeking.

It must be tough for them to get out of house in the morning. Reminds me of my high school days when girls use to report to the girls bathroom first thing in the morning to roll up their skirts. I have to be honest and admit I was one of them. My mother was never willing to let me wear my skirts but an inch above my knee and that inch was fought for very hard by me. If my mother had her way I would have worn my skirts below my knees.

Even though I admit to having rolled up my own skirts in the girls bathroom at school even I had the decency to only go so far. My objective was not to stand out but go along with crowd. Back in the 60’ and 70’s most girls were wearing their skirts several inches above the knees. I felt like wearing mine any lower would draw attention to my self. I wanted very much to be one of the bunch. Two inches above my knee was fine by me. I would not have been comfortable with wearing my skirts five or six inches above my knees.

And thank God, it was not till the 80’s that Madonna made it popular for young girls to show their bras in public. I am glad I missed that one. But I think I can understand that trend. Was not it popular because girls and women thought that showing their bras in various colors and styles made them sexy? I do not know any women that finds these men wearing their pants on the ground sexy. What women would waste their time with a man that can not even get a job? A stupid woman.

These young men that wear their pants under their butts are looking to shock people. Maybe they should start at home and shock their parents by getting a job or cleaning their rooms!

It is such a vulgar trend I have spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. I have asked several young men why they wear their pants so low and they all said , “I dunno”.

Once while in some one else’s home a young man came parading through with his pants on the ground and I just could not take it anymore. I got up from where I was sitting and using my authority, I told him to “Pull up your pants”. For a moment it did not look like it was a very smart thing for me to do. But I knew it was the right thing to do. He looked at me like who in the hell do you think you are. I stared him down and then he pulled his pants up like the infantile he was acting like. My point is that many of us could assert our authority over these knit-wits and demand that they show some respect for themselves!

It was just today that I remembered how some parents while scolding their children have said, “Don’t show your behind or ass to me”. Is this how and where all this comes from? Are these young people rebelling in such a way that they are taking those words literally and showing us their behinds?

What prisoners they have become to their pants. They can not carry anything in their hands because it takes both hands to hold up their pants. They can not even smoke a cigarette, carry books, carry a brief case, they can not even carry a cell phone and talk while they walk. Instead they are so dumb that they are willing to do nothing but parade around showing us their behinds. And like I told my son, these men could not be carrying guns or anything cause they are using both hands to hold up their pants and can not run in these pants.

But as soon as we say something is not going to happen…well we know. Imagine the 11:00 news reporting, “Young man caught by his own pants as he tries to make a get-a-way”! Or, imagine how hilarious the footage would be seeing some guy trying to hold up his pants while trying to hold a gun and grab the money too. While the shop guys calls him a sissy and takes his bat out and clobbers him over the head.

Now that winter is here I wonder how they are going to pull this off. Will they cut out the backs of their overcoats just so we can get a glimpse of their underwear? Maybe it is just a summer thing?
